We recently sat down with DJ Boschmann, Head of Sales and Business Development at Parallel Paving, to discuss how the company began and what sets it apart. Founded in 2021 by DJ and his longtime friend Trevor, Parallel was built with a simple goal: to create a paving company that could serve the local community without having to travel to Vancouver for work.

Both founders came from hands-on paving backgrounds and wanted to create a company rooted in quality, accountability, and local relationships.

Today, Parallel Paving delivers asphalt projects ranging from residential driveways to commercial lots, strata complexes, basketball and tennis courts, and, more recently, civil infrastructure work. While they handle projects of all sizes, they take pride in residential projects, from short, straightforward driveway replacements to long rural driveways that require detailed grading and preparation.

Full-Service Paving: From Road Base Preparation to Final Asphalt

What makes Parallel different is that they don’t just “lay asphalt.” They offer the full package. That means removing old surfaces, rebuilding road bases in proper layers, preparing foundations correctly, and then paving on top. Many companies specialise in only one stage of the process. Water management, DJ explained, is one of the most important and overlooked aspects of paving. If a road or driveway isn’t properly graded and sealed, water will find its way in, and that’s when deterioration begins. Done correctly, a residential driveway should last for decades. Municipal roadways, depending on traffic volume and layering, are engineered differently to match usage demands.

DJ noted that consistency in aggregate sizing and quality control is critical to meeting safety specifications and avoiding costly rework. Supporting Infrastructure Projects Across Chilliwack

A recent project they’re particularly proud of involved permanent road crossings for the Trans Mountain pipeline in Chilliwack. After the pipeline was installed, temporary paving was put down. Parallel was hired a year later to complete the project by properly rebuilding and paving the roads once the ground had settled. Projects like this require precision, coordination, and durable materials, and we’re proud that Kel-Mor aggregates played a role in strengthening infrastructure across our community.

For DJ, paving is about more than asphalt. It’s about relationships. Outside of work, he coaches his kids’ baseball and softball teams, another reflection of his commitment to community.
